Privacy Policy
Who we are
Nation in Shorts is a news website that publishes short, linked stories about India and the world. This policy explains what information the site collects when you visit it, why, and what choices you have.
Information we collect
Reading activity. When you like, share, follow or read a story, or answer a quiz, the site records that action. Counts are stored in aggregate. Features such as “Since your last visit”, “Following” and “For you” use preferences saved in your own browser (local storage or cookies), so they work without an account.
Approximate location. The “Near you” section uses a default local state set by the site. If you choose a city for rates or air quality, that choice is stored in your browser only.
Technical data. Like most websites, our server and hosting provider log standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and time of request. We use it for security, spam prevention and to keep the site running.
Push notifications. If you opt in to notifications, our push provider (OneSignal) receives a device identifier so it can deliver alerts. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings.
Comments and forms. If a comment or contact form is enabled, we collect the name, email address and message you submit, plus your IP address and browser user agent for spam detection.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser storage to remember your edition (India or World), your followed topics, your fields of interest and what you have already read. If you log in as an administrator or editor, WordPress sets login cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though some personalised features will stop working.
Third-party services
The site may load data or services from third parties, for example weather and air quality providers, push notification services, search engine tools and embedded content such as videos or social posts. These services may collect data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal data.
How we use information
We use the information above to run the site, personalise your feed, measure which stories are useful, prevent abuse, send notifications you asked for and improve the product.
How long we keep data
Aggregate engagement counts are kept as long as the related story is on the site. Server logs are kept for a limited period set by our hosting provider. Comments and form messages are kept until we delete them or you ask us to.
Your choices and rights
You can clear your browser storage to reset your preferences, switch off push notifications, and ask us to delete or export any personal data we hold about you. To make a request, use the contact details on the About our newsroom page.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The latest version is always on this page.
